Vogue Black and Vogue Curvy
The Huffingnton Post reports the news that Vogue Italia has launched a handful of new sites online, including ” Vogue Curvy, which provides a glimpse into normal and plus-size beauty, with features on Crystal Renn, Christina Hendricks and America Ferrera.
Vogue Black provides insight on beauty of color, with a headline reading “Know Your ‘Fro” and profiles on Tyra Banks and Grace Jones.’
A timely and necessary initative from one of the world’s premiere fashion magazines to be inclusive and more representative?
Certainly.
And worth applauding, but …
there is something slightly uncomfortable about the fact that the “Black” and “Curvy” sites are separate entities and not fully integrated into the main site.
The content is superb, with wonderful images and useful advice, but, why were these two innovative new sites, not just integrated into the main Vogue Italia site?
By this separation, whether intentionally or not, the readers of “Black,” and “Curvy,” are reminded, (just in case they did not already know,) that they are NOT fully legitimate members of the Vogue Italia family
OnlineApartheid? Or over-reaction?
Let me know what you think.

Interesting. I, as a ‘normal’ girl feel just a tad annoyed, maybe even offended that I’m being catered for on a seperate site.
