So this is what you need to know before you click through to see these images from VICE Magazine, shot by Emma Arvida Bystro.:
1) No matter how you feel when you see these images, what they depict is perfectly natural. Experienced by just about half the world’s population on a monthly basis.
2) That although VICE Magazine’s intention is probably very much to create outrage and shock, there shouldn’t be anything too shocking about the images at all.
3) However. They do shock.
4) Also remember that VICE is a magazine focused on arts and culture. Its brief is to challenge and encourage thought. No matter how shocking the images are.
5) And don’t worry. NO pictures of our dear Priapic Pres are included.

I don’t have a problem with this at all. It may disgust some people, but to me, having my period is normal and is a sign that I’m a healthy growing girl. Why do we need to feel ashamed? The above pictures are scenes from everyday life, we all have our period while doing these things – it’s just that we don’t show it!
I have to admit that it does disturb me on a few levels. Firstly it reminds me of all the times I’ve had “accidents” in the past and I relive the embarrassment.
Secondary it reminds me of something that I have not had for almost 2 years and how *not* having it is actually the abnormal thing (I am 25 years old).
I guess people don’t want to be reminded of the uncomfortable things in life. People react to this with similar embarrassment to wetting their pants.
I’m not sure HV. Going to the loo is natural too, but i really don’t want to see an editorial depicting it. Or young men masturbating, if we going for shock value.
I’m by no means a prude, it’s just a bit cringe worthy.
Having your period is normal, but having blood smeared all over you is not.
OK I’ve thought about it some more. And I think I was a bit narrow minded comparing it as I did. They certainly challenged and encouraged me to think, and I respect that.
Would have been better had I not been eating my morning yogurt-with-cherries-on-the-bottom. Still, part of me wants to know, is it “make-up” or did the casting call specify moon girls?
I don’t think it’s too shocking. I’m not sure why periods are such a taboo subject. Very few other things seem to be. I’m particularly referring to the 2nd picture, and having sex on your period. I’m still not sure if this is acceptable to talk about/and or do or not? Most of us do get our period for at least 4 out of every 28 days . Having said that, would I pose in shots like this, makeup or not? Not a chance.
