THIS DAKOTA FANNING AD FOR MARC JACOBS WAS BANNED IN THE UK. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

by hurricanevanessa on November 9, 2011

Dakota Fanning = 17. Lola = suggests Lolita = banned.

The British Advertising Standards Authority explained it’s decision to ban this Marc Jacobs Dakota Fanning ad to the UK Telegraph:

““We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child.”

I think … I’ve seen worse… but yes, it’s irritating.

And I’m always going to feel uncomfortable, when images play up the innocence and youth of the model.

Fanning is 18 after all, (Which is an adult, as the ASA acknowledged.)

But then, Marc Jacobs, knew exactly what he was doing: ““I knew [Dakota could be this contemporary Lolita, seductive yet sweet.”

Humbert Humbert = Middle-aged. Lolita = 12.

The ad? Timelessly horrible.
