SEPTEMBER ISSUES: A BIT …BLAND?

by hurricanevanessa on August 5, 2009

In The States, the September issues of the major women’s glossies are the most important and prestigious of the year. They are the heavy-hitters with regards to advertising and have, in the pre-recession past, netted 700 page telephone directories for the likes of market leader, American Vogue. For a celebrity or model to feature on the cover of a September issue is an even more than usually significant indicator of hotness.

So who gets the nod this year?  Take a look. See if you can spot a common trend.

Spot the difference

Spot the difference

or ...not.

or ...not.

Blondes. Blondes. Blondes. Never mind black faces. Or Latina faces. Or even a brunette?

In this country, glossy editors get a bit of stick for not featuring enough diverse beauties on our own covers. I’d say we’re paragons of representation in comparison to our American sisters. But I would say that, wouldn’t I?
