PRINCE WILLIAM’S NEW OFFICIAL PORTRAIT: THE HEIR WITH HAIR

by hurricanevanessa on January 18, 2010

Here’s the first official combined portrait, for The National Portrait Gallery, by Nicky Phillips, of The Heir and “The Spare” and …um, hair.

What lovely boys.

What lovely boys.

Meanwhile, on his first official solo tour, here he is, in New Zealand.

seems a nice chap, with, or without.

Seems a nice chap, with, or without.

I do feel mean-spirited, drawing attention to the fact that he is …um, going quite bald, but if an OFFICIAL portrait is commissioned which is so obviously inaccurate, it’s quite hard not to notice, isn’t it?

And it does beg the question, why not make the portrait realistic and take a huge step forward, for the cause of men balding prematurely?

Popping in these virtual hair-plugs does rather perpetuate the myth that bald men are somehow unattractive and that losing one’s hair is something to hide.

Or to retouch out of an official portrait with some carefully daubed bits of imaginative oil paint.

It can’t make the poor guy feel any better about his follicle count, anyway.

Royally unfair, I think.
