ONE VERY GOOD REASON TO APPLAUD LARA STONE

by hurricanevanessa on April 21, 2010

She could have been in trouble.

She could have been in trouble.

Personally, I have never understood the massive appeal of Lara Stone’s quirky looks.

But that’s just me.

I would never make a model scout.

But I do recognise an act of bravery and honesty when I see one, and in this, I’m a fan all the way.

A while back, the most in-demand Model on the planet, quietly checked-in to Stepping Stones Rehab in Kommetjie, in Cape Town.

No fuss was made while she was here, and she was, by all accounts, decent and friendly to everyone she encountered.

She could have left it at that.

No need to shine a light on something personal and potentially damaging to her “brand.”

Her problems, should, in a perfect world, remain her own business, shouldn’t they?

But she has been honest and frank about her experience, and also very complimentary about the treatment she received,.

Her advocacy of both the treatment she undertook, and Stepping Stones, must mean a lot to the profile of facility and must mean a lot to many other young women suffering from an addiction, like hers.

Recently, she told Interview Magazine: “The drinking was getting way out of control. I just didn’t recognise myself any more. I didn’t know what I was doing or where I was.

‘I always had to have some drinks with me in my bag. Just waking up shaking and then having Bloody Marys on your own, first thing in the morning – I started to feel really pathetic about it.

‘Also, with this job, always travelling on the plane and everything, I thought it would be really difficult to quit on my own because you’re always in situations where it’s acceptable to have drinks.’

‘It was the best thing I’ve done in my entire life. I’m so happy I did that.’
