MIRANDA KERR DOES THE OBLIGATORY “DEMI” FOR W MAGAZINE

In between appointments with the ob-gyn, picking out names and painting tine nursery, in the world of celebrities, there's another ritual undergone by all big pregnant stars: the naked magazine shoot.

Demi’s done it, Xtina’s done it, Cindy Crawford’s done it.

And here’s Miranda Kerr: Victoria’s Secret, Prada and Jil Sander model / Mrs Orlando Bloom stripping down to nothing for W Magazine.

It’s all for a “good cause.” The shoot, by Peter Lindbergh, is for W’s “family issue.” Other participants include Jenna Jameson, Katherine Heigl, Usher and Jeff Koons.

Is appearing in the magazine a “good cause?”

All the participants talk very earnestly about “family” and what it means to them, and the pictures project a very picture perfect (and, of course, very well-dressed) face of family life.

Is that necessary?

Is it worth it?

As a lingerie model, I wouldn’t expect Mrs Bloom to have to many scruples about exposing her flesh to the photographer’s lens and the public’s beady eyes.

But it certainly will make any future issues she might have with protecting the privacy of this unborn child, a little sticky to defend in the future.

Still, she’s made this deal in good company. Many other high-profile celebs have also agreed to let W shoot their families for this issue as well.

I suspect that Jenna Jameson (retired porn star) would struggle to find herself in the company of such luminaries as Madonna and Lourdes, if she hadn’t paid some price to do so.

And of course, in this instance, the only reason she is featured, at all, must be to answer the question, “What happens when a porn star has babies?” Is it necessary for us to debate that at all? Would her boys welcome that particular attention and discussion, if they were not powerless and in nappies?

The public interest? A higher purpose? Pretty pictures and exposure?

You decide.

“I really don’t think I need to say, ‘Mommy was a porn star,’” Jenna Jameson says of explaining her former profession to Jesse and Journey, her twin boys with Ultimate Fighting Championship star Tito Ortiz. “I feel like they’re going to know me and think, Mommy loved us so much that she quit everything and made us her job. And that’s what I did. The moment I decided to have children, I quit. I won’t even do a Maxim cover,”
