IN WHICH I AM VERY NAIVE FOR THE SECOND TIME IN A WEEK AND PUT IT OUT THERE THAT THIS BODYSHOP AD HAS GOT TO BE SOMEONE ELSE MAKING MISCHIEF. THOUGHTS?

by hurricanevanessa on August 24, 2011

Bollywood star Dia Mirza for ....Body Shop? Promising "fairer skin in 4 weeks?" The ethical, legacy, integrity company of Anita Roddick? Surely, surely not.

Anita R must be doing a Bollywood Spectacular belly dance in her grave.

She was an ethical chick.

Someone please put me right, if it’s just mischief-making and if it is the real thing, put Body Shop right.

Right away.

Skin lightening/whitening is a huge thing in India. For them, lighter is prettier. It’s akin to how back in Victorian times white skin was a symbol of wealth. In India, the very dark are usually the very poor, who have to work outdoors/with their hands, of low caste. There’s also the whole Western celebrity influence :-/

I think the point was not about the whitening itself, but the fact that a company like the Body Shop was promoting it :)

It’s for real – the products are listing on TBS India website: http://www.thebodyshop.in/listing.php?cat_id=4&sub_cat_id=47. Shocking!
