Dakota Fanning is one Hollywood starlet whose parents seem to be doing their best to provide a “normal life” – ensuring that she attends high school and takes part in all the rituals and events, that make up an average American teen-agers’ school years.
Of course, not every average American teenager stars on the cheerleading squad and is crowned homecoming queen (twice.)
But then not every American teen has been a major Hollywood star, since they were in nappies, either.
This, from The Daily Mail: “She has played a vampire and a rock star and has been a household name since she shot to fame at the tender age of seven years old.
But Hollywood actress Dakota Fanning is still very much a down-to-earth, all-American girl-next door as these pictures show.
The 16-year-old actress received one of the biggest accolades an American teenage girl could get after she was crowned Homecoming Queen at her high school yesterday.
It was also the second year running that Dakota – who is also on the cheerleading squad – and the school’s American Football team’s quarterback were made Homecoming King and Queen at the £19,000-a-year private high school, Campbell Hall Episcopal in North Hollywood.
Fanning and her unknown King beamed broadly for the cameras as they were both draped in sashes and given crowns, while she also received a bunch of roses.
Homecoming is an annual tradition in the US which welcomes back former residents and alumni of a high school or university and includes a day of activities including a sports match and a parade through the town or city.”
It’s pretty impressive, when you think about it and reason (on the surface) to raise a glass of Chardonnay to her parents. “Normality” in Hollywood takes sensible choices, long-term planning and sacrifices.
Oh, plus common sense.
Good, loving parenting, in other words.
When last did anyone see this baby star on the cover of any magazine? Or falling out of a nightclub? Or with her tongue down her co-star’s throat?
And her parents didn’t have to move to Utah to do it.
Just saying.

I agree with you so far Vanessa, but look at Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears and the like. I hope she stays this grounded but she is still young. When she turns 21 and is able to make her own decisions, THAT is when the true Dakota will show.
(LOVING your blog!)
Miley is 17! And Taylor Momsen is also under 21! But yes, lets hope she stays even slightly ‘normal’.
