AS THE STOMACH TURNS OF THE DAY: VERSACE KIDS

by hurricanevanessa on May 14, 2011

The House of Versace announced it's new children's range under the Young Versace brand. Gotta start them young, you know. Can't have rich children wearing non-label anything can we etc etc

Young Versace will be aimed at children from infancy until 12. Sigh.

According to WWD, “This is a high-end, glamorous and colorful collection in line with the brand’s essence, with a touch of rock ’n’ roll,” said Gian Giacomo Ferraris, chief executive officer of Versace SpA. The label’s iconic symbols, such as the Greek frieze and the Medusa, will be reinterpreted with a sense of irony and fun prints in natural fabrics.

Ferraris described Young Versace as a “full collection,” which complements Versace’s product offer, and will be produced in-house. “Donatella Versace strongly supports and is behind the project, we have a state-of-the-art technological platform and supply chain, and we directly manage our core business,” he said, referring to the Novara, Italy-based plant.”

I didn’t know that glamour and “rock ‘n roll,” were appropriate brand touch points for a child.

I’d say “hard wearing,” “comfortable” and “easy to wash,” were somewhat more attractive characteristic to look for, when considering what a child should wear,

but then, I’m not rich enough to buy Versace for myself, let alone my children.

Aimed at the 0-12 year old. They can make these choices?

How grumpy does that little girl look? And she is just a PICTURE of a girl wearing those clothes. Imagine a real child dressed in that, with Mama in the background saying “Tilt your head, darling, no no don’t EAT you could spill on your trenchcoat. Oh no don’t go outside. What? Soccer? You want to play SOCCER in the dress? No darling, just go and lean against a doorframe and look moody. Yes, that’s it darling…”
