Images just released from her new "Rude Boy" video. Poor, undignified, fake zebra.
Tin foil/barbed wire?
'A lot of my videos are really dark and edgy and tough. Rude Boy is more playing along the lines from my roots."
Back in the day, it used to be that you knew you were ageing when the policemen looked young. Or, when you started complaining about the fact that the music played on commercial music stations and on TV Top of The Pops-type shows, “had no tune.”
But also:
You know you are turning into your Mother, when the hottest male stars of the day make you feel somewhere between… indifferent and…motherly .
And when you look at what female stars are wearing and think, “You’re not going out in that, are you?”
I realise, with my current watching brief on Rihanna’s clothes, that I am drifting, ever more inexorably, further away from the “yummy” and closer towards the “mummy” side.
It is just a bit of a wake-up call, when you dream of taking a face-cloth to everyone on the best-dressed list and scrubbing their little faces.
Or you think, idly, how nice it would be to hit somewhere like Earthchild with any one of them, to give them the opportunity to feel some simple, wholesome cotton or linen close to their skin.
I prescribe …a quick dose of cheesecloth for all the painted, primped and styled. From Madame Gaga, to Victoria Beckham, Fergie and that poor, poor Gwen Stefani.
Think of all the time they could save, by just running their fingers through their hair and throwing on a pair of jeans and slops, occasionally.
The could work with disadvantaged children.
Write the follow-up to “Outliers.”
Or even just go for a walk on a beach.
The primping, fussing is just so much misguided hard work.
The constant choosing and discarding of “new looks”, so wasteful.
But my own Mommy puritanism is boring, too.
Time to chill.
I sound just a bit like my late Grandmother and very much more like Dame Edna Everage.
I think a dose of calming, cheesecloth, vintage Cat Stevens is called for.
Or Carole King.
Even some Carly Simon.
Plus a glass of wine and a nice book.
