GILES DEACON’S HOMAGE TO BARNEY BAG. NOT FOR CHILDREN?

by hurricanevanessa on February 7, 2010

Dino bags. Every child's must have.

Dino bags. Every child's must have.

Last October Giles Deacon debuted these Triceratops Handbags, in Paris.

As part of his 2010 Spring/summer range.

They were greeted with …roars of laughter?

No, of course they were not.

These bags are considered so “amazing perfectly fantastic” (according to Fashionista) who go on to report that, instead of being consigned to the toy box…

“Editors steal them.

A lot of the best things on the runway – and by best we mean most fun to look at, not most practical or well made – don’t get put into production, like the Nina Ricci shoes from Olivier Theysken’s last collection or McQueen’s shoes from SS10. Giles Deacon’s dinosaurs fall into the same category, though they’re actually wearable, which is why when editors call them in for a shoot, they’re not giving them back. And why, when magazines call now, Giles’ showroom has nothing to give.

This is a hotter bag, than the "rubbish" bag.

This is a hotter bag, than the Louis Vuitton "Rubbish" bag.

On the one hand, that sucks, and is rude (not to mention dumb since it’s not exactly a subtle accessory). On the other hand, if we got a hold of one, you’d have to pry it from our cold dead hands.”

Yes, it is hard to teach a child that every toy in the toy box is not hers.

But someone needs to.

And what is this bag, if not a bloody Metallic bloody Barney on a shoulder strap?

The whole fashion industry needs to spend some time on the naughty step.

They all could benefit from “time to think.”

Good morning. This is silly. So very very silly. And odd. And strange. And baffling. And insulting to Barney. They really didn’t capture his essence at ALL.

But street vendors have been selling them for years! And you don’t have to swop your car for one. For you my lady, 20 rends!
