The divine Ms Renn and fellow Ford model, Kelly Moreira, are clad in Queen Elizabeth headscarves and very un-Queen Elizabeth tights and platforms in JPG’s latest ads.
Predictably, a lot of fuss has been made about the fact that Gaultier has chosen a “plus-sized” model, even though their history goes way back, to 2005, when Renn walked the catwalk with him at the finale of his Paris show.
So here she is.
As always – gorgeous.
But, if she merely seemed “normal-sized” before, Renn really makes a mockery of the term, “plus-sized,” now.
Doesn’t she?
I have considered instituting a new category called “minus-sized” for all those super-skinny models as a way of protesting against the term “plus-sized,” but who wants to put any-sized models and their weight under more scrutiny? Or call them insulting names, either?
There’s far too much name-calling going on, around the subject of women’s weight, anyway.
What would be really healthy would be for us to stop the labeling of women’s bodies altogether.
No more “pregnancy weight.” No more “puppy fat.” No more “middle-aged spread.” No more “freshman 5 kilos.”
Then perhaps we could all breathe out and make peace with our “healthy, happy weight.”
A weight which comes in many different gorgeous shapes and sizes.
Great girl, but would you buy the clothes?
As she was. 2005.
